Goyang International Horticulture Flower Show Korea 2012

Goyang International Horticulture Flower Show Korea 2012

So a  few weeks ago I visited the Goyang Flower Festival which is in Ilsan not far from KINTEX.

There were a vast array of splendid tulips off all colours. The day was bright and sunny and attracted thousands of onlookers of all ages. There must have been tens of thousands of tulips and some green houses that contained a variety of cactus's and other varieties of flowers. However the line to get into the green house was too large for me and as the day was quite hot we decided not to wait for a lengthy period of time exposed to the sun.

Well it is spring time here in Korea so get out to your local parks and enjoy the flowers! I will be getting a new lens in the next few months (a macro lens) so that I can enjoy taking pictures of all the springtime and summertime flowers and bugs that will be appearing soon also :)

Well here are a few pictures and a slideshow for you to enjoy:

The 4th New Zealand Wine Festival Seoul 2012 & Comic World Seoul 109 & Ink Bomb Seoul 2012

The New Zealand Wine Festival Seoul Grand Hyatt Hotel 13 May 2012

The NZ Wine festival was held in the sunny gardens of the Hyatt Grand Hotel in Seoul city on Sunday the 13th of May 2012. A strong crowd of Koreans and New Zealanders came to enjoy a little taste from home in regard to both the wine and sausages. A tasty and delicious spread was put out for the attendees with a good old barbecue and even some hokey pokey ice cream to boot! A DJ played all the hits from New Zealand whilst the evening sun warmed the atmosphere.
The event was organized by Sunny Myung from The Kiwi Chamber (The New Zealand Chamber of Commerce in Korea). you can visit the website here:

Comic World Seoul 109

Earlier on the morning of Sunday May 13th 2012 I went to aT Center to view this months Comic and Cosplay event. I received and email from one of my readers asking about information regarding cosplay in Seoul. I was vaguely aware that there was a cosplay meeting every so often somewhere in Seoul so I decided to find out more about it.

So if you are interested in going to one of these events check out this website for Comic World and it will tell you when the next event is on: (Comic World 110 - the next event as I post this - is at SETEC which is at Hangnyeoul Station Orange Line; Line number 3).
http://www.comicw.co.kr/service/main.html

The aT Center was very easy to find to my surprise! I had some old information about catching a bus from Yangjae station 3 stops or so toward the flower market but now there is an easier way! Just go to Gungnam station and get the DX line (the new red line) to Yangjae Citizens Forest stop and exit there (if I remember right its exit 4 but there should be signs to aT Center). The DX line is the ghost train (or thats what I like to call it) because there is no driver!

Ink Bomb Seoul 2012

I was going to post about this event next week but... as per its name it was a bomb or rather a total and complete failure. I am not sure who was to blame for this but just as the event should have been taking off or getting started (Saturday afternoon was the beginning of the big shows) it was shut down by the Korean Police. Around 5pm on Saturday the 19th of May 2012 the police showed up and the tattoo artists were scurrying around boxing up all their gear and getting out of the event hall as quickly as possible. I would assume this was because only a very few places in Korea have licences to tattoo otherwise tattooing is illegal and maybe that's why the event was shut down. I saw a few people outside with newly drawn tattoos on their body, the question is were they even finished or just partly started before things went sour.
So a highly disappointing event and I am being quite harsh about it but you would expect that all laws and arrangements would have been agreed to before the event was started. Here is what the event looked like from my point of view:

South Korea is still a very conservative country and anything like this event should have all the I's dotted and all the t's crossed before going ahead. Unlike western or English speaking countries tattoo art and body piercing is very unusual and is still looked down upon by a majority of the population here. So I am not at all surprised that there was zero tolerance shown by the police in this case.

Well that all the news for this week!

Remember this weekend is the start of BIMOS the Busan International Motor Show held at BEXCO in Busan City (24 May - 3 June). The event is shared between Seoul and Busan each city having the event for one year and this year its Busan's turn. Here is the event info:

I might see you there :)
Well until next week have a fantastic time! :)

King Tutankhamun Exhibition Gwacheon National Science Museum Seoul South Korea

King Tutankhamun Exhibition Gwacheon National Science Museum Seoul South Korea

In the weekend on Childrens Day here in Korea I went to the National Science Museum to check out the King Tutankhamun Exhibition that is being held there. Originally it was supposed to end in February but has been extended until the 13th of May 2012 (So that means you have one week left to get down there and see it).
It costs 12,000 won per adult but it is worth it to see all the treasures there and it is possible to take photographs in the main area and you wont need a flash. I was very impressed with all the artifacts and it is nicely set out so you can view things from every angle there. As this is the last week I would expect that it should not be crowded and I was surprised that it was not crowded on Saturday (childrens day) but I did arrive fairly early.

Anyway here are a couple of links that should help you out:

So to get there:
Take line 4 to Seoul Grand Park Station. Exit number 5 and walk toward the National Science Museums main entrance. You will see the entrance to the King Tutankhamun Exhibition on your left.

Here are a few pictures and a youtube slideshow to give you an idea of what you can see there:

Ok so last week I discovered that the Ansan Airshow has been postponed until fall or autumn but there was conflicting information about that. So I found 2 more internet sites that are more reliable so you can keep an eye on them for more accurate data:

Hopefully next week I will have a great report for you on the "Dream Concert" that will be held this weekend with all the most famous k-pop bands in Korea. So fingers crossed :)

Well that all for this week. Have a fantastic time until we meet again! :)
